Our policy is with Lloyds of London and, as part of the undertaking required by the Underwriters, Clubs wishing to participate, must be affiliated to the Foreign Bird Association and must give a signed statement to the fact that they have not previously suffered any loss, whether insured or not.
The basic policy (restricted to UK mainland Clubs) covers one Show and 12 Club meetings for Public Liability Cover only, with an insured sum of up to £1,000,000, with an excess of £250 and £500 for Third Party Property Damage for each and any claim. Cover for £2,000,000 or £5,000,000 can also be arranged.
The date of commencement is 10th December and will give cover until the following 9th December.
Additional Clubs can be added to the policy throughout the year, and the cost is the same irrespective of the joining date (i.e., the cover applies from the date of entering on to the policy until the expiry date of the policy – 9th December and not for 12 months).
The cover provided by the Underwriters will indemnify the insured against liability at law for damages and claimant’s cost and expenses in respect of accidental:
1  Death, bodily injury, illness or diseased of any person;
2  Loss of, or damage to, material property.
The Underwriters liability for damages will not exceed the amount stated in the schedule in respect of any one occurrence.
What must be clearly stated is that the Public Liability does not cover paid-up Club members; it is, as it says, for Public Liability only.
If your Club does not have Public Liability insurance, then it would be sensible to give the matter serious consideration.
